"...no one is going to have as
much
fun with this
as I am"
(above) Doctor Ronnie Hawkins Father of
Rock’n’Roll, Judith Woodsworth President
of Laurentian University and Jamie Wallace,
former Chair of Laurentian University's
Board of Governors.
On Friday, June 3, Ronnie Hawkins was up on
a different type of stage.
The stage was in the Fraser Auditorium of
Laurentian University who presented an
Honourary Doctorate of Letters to our
Canadian Rock Legend.
On a large screen above the stage, a video
of clips from Ronnie’s life delighted an
audience spanning four generations into a
standing ovation.
Ronnie shared the event with 1100 graduating
students.
His words of advice to the young graduates
were pretty straightforward. “Don’t Smoke”.
Ronnie is credited in many music history
documents with introducing rock'n'roll to
Canada in 1958 and continues as one of the
greatest supporters of the Canadian Music
Industry.
The Energizer Rocker’s latest project is
an historical rock show scheduled to open
June 18 in Waterloo’s Starlight Theatre.
You will get to hear live, the good old
rock’n’roll of the early years, just the
way it was played back then, narrated by The
Hawk and his band.

Graduates couldn't resist the opportunity to
interact with Dr. Ronnie Hawkins.
